Anti-Authoritarian Shopping Websites
Goods Unite Us – Good website for exploring the political affiliation of 1000s of companies with interesting details. Don’t miss the reviews and check out the “Shop Blue List.”
Progressive Shopper – Similar donation info as Goods Unite Us with additional information on the company’s negative issues such as funding climate deniers and anti-abortion politicians or overpaid CEO. Double-check the data. I found some errors.
Open Secrets – I found it difficult to extract actionable information from this website but there are plenty of interesting articles.
Little Blue Cart – This website provides well organized information about progressive small businesses by category and state. Unfortunately, no Montana businesses are in the database but, hopefully, some of our small progressive businesses will sign up soon for their free directory listing.
Local Businesses
A team at Bozeman Rising is working on a list of Gallatin County businesses that support democracy, anti-authoritarianism, the rule of law, free and fair elections, social justice, economic equality, environmental protection, and civil rights and liberties. (Thank you!) Here’s the first installment with more to come!

Stay Informed
The first goal of Stacey Abram’s 10 Steps to Freedom and Power is to “Understand what’s happening – not simply the headlines but the effects of policies on you and your community.” If you don’t know what’s happening with your government, your economy, and your community, how are you going to know if someone’s outlandish statement is truth or misinformation? The news can be depressing, especially if you’re doomscrolling through social media. You don’t need to do that. And you don’t need to pay for accurate, quality news. (Although paying for your local news supports critical local journalism.) Here are some free, unbiased, easy to consume news services.

Local News
Supporting our local journalism is important! These are the people who attend and report on the school board meetings, the city commission meetings, the candidate forums and lots of other meetings that we might not have the time (or interest) to attend. Our local journalists keep our politicians and city government on their toes! If they aren’t watching, who is? The digital edition of the Bozeman Chronicle costs $10/month. If you’re not comfortable with the expense, check the website’s headlines and the op-ed page (free access) to keep up on the latest local issues.
KBZK not only does a good job covering our local news, they also provide national and international news. Often on the website, I’ve see important national news on issues I haven’t seen on CBS, NBC or the WSJ. This is important local journalism that keeps tabs on our local leaders, our economy and our environment.
If you have cable, set up your recorder to watch the evening news at your convenience. Better yet, check out the website which has even more news!
If you listen to NPR’s morning or evening programming, you’ve probably heard Yellowstone Public Radio’s (YPR) local news spots every half hour. You can listen to all of the YPR’s reporting for the day on The Worm! It’s available every morning via podcast through Spotify and Apple or via the website at ypradio.org/podcast/the-worm.
YPR covers major news for Montana and “the region” (typically includes Northern Wyoming) plus a human interest story. Unfortunately, you won’t get the local weather report.
It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.

Volunteer
Getting involved takes many forms and can accommodate even the most demanding lifestyle. If you can commit to an hour ever week or two, that’s fine. You’ll feel better for your contribution and the resistance will be strengthened by your commitment!
Pick your issue. Find the organization and community that jives with your vibes! Decide which of your talents you would like to apply to the cause. Artistic, research, public engagement, composition, organizing, administrative or just showing up – these talents and many more are needed.
Attend Local Events
You’re in the right place to keep track of local presentations about citizen ballot initiatives, candidate forums, the impact of government policies and major issues that effect our community, our state and our country. Check this website regularly to learn about local presentations and make a plan to attend. Bring a friend!
Page Under Construction
There are plenty of other things you can do to support the resistance against the authoritarian takeover of our government. The information on this webpage will be growing quickly over the next few days! Come back for more ideas!
