Fight the USPS Plan
To Restrict Our Voting Rights!
For the week ending June 26th –
- A federal judge blocked key points in Trump’s March 31, 2026 executive order that would create a federal “national voter list” for mail-in and absentee ballots. She ordered agencies to stop implementing the directives in the order immediately.
- Two judges ruled against a 2025 executive order that required documentary proof of citizenship (passport or birth certificate) as part of the voter registration process for federal elections, bars states from accepting mail-in absentee ballots after Election Day, and other election related issues.
- An appeals court blocked a Justice Department voter roll demand.
While these rulings are wins for our democracy, we could still lose our mail-in voting rights. It is possible that an appeals court or SCOTUS could overrule the lower courts.
Tell USPS Hands-Off Mail-In Voting!
As part of the plan to unconstitutionally strip states of control over mail-in voting, the USPS has proposed new rules for mailing ballots for federal elections. The rules would make it far more difficult for states to provide mail-in voting which is exactly what the regime seeks to achieve.
USPS is accepting public comment on the new rules. See the USPS statement.

What the USPS Rule Would Do
State Voter Lists Required: States would have to provide USPS with names, addresses, and unique ballot barcodes for all voters requesting mail-in or absentee ballots in federal elections.
Federal Control Over Delivery: Only voters on the federal list would receive ballots. States could not send ballots to anyone not on that list.
Mandatory Standards: USPS would require official Election Mail logos, tracking barcodes, and design reviews for ballot mailings.
Data Use: The list would be used to create state-specific “Mail-In and Absentee Participation Lists” and to compare mailed ballots with returned ones for “potential issues.”
Scope: Applies to general, special, and runoff federal elections, but not primaries or ballots for military/overseas voters.
Legal and Political Context
The order is part of a broader push to limit no-excuse mail-in voting and assert federal control over elections, which the Constitution gives to states and Congress.
Lawsuits are challenging the order as unconstitutional, arguing it could block eligible voters due to proven errors and omissions in the list.
Eight states (plus D.C.) already automatically send ballots to all eligible voters; the rule could disrupt those systems.
Over 48 million Americans voted by mail in 2024, so the changes could significantly affect voting access in key states.
Administration’s Position
The White House says the goal is to “ensure the safety and security of American elections” and to implement the order before the 2026 midterms. U.S. elections are already safe. The truth is that the regime seeks to manipulate the election if they aren’t satisfied with the outcome. From 2016 to 2022, approximately .000043% of mail-in ballots were fraudulent – 4 out of 10 million.
The White House is also demanding related legislation like the SAVE America Act, which would require photo ID for voting and end no-excuse mail-in voting. The SAVE America Act would also deter millions of women and low income Americans from voting unless they can produce a birth certificate and marriage certificate to prove their legal name.
Please speak out again the USPS’ proposed rule change for mail-in ballots by July 2nd.

No ICE Holds In Our Jail
Please Email the County Commissioners Today!
Today, Community Rapid Response–Gallatin County, together with Indivisible Bozeman, is launching a new effort, and we hope you will join.
In Gallatin County, the primary way that ICE is detaining people is through the practice of placing a 48-hour “hold” on them at the county jail. In 2025, 84 people were transferred to ICE custody in this way, many with only minor charges and misdemeanors. The practice is ongoing. Detained people are quickly taken to Great Falls and moved out of state to detention facilities in Tacoma, Salt Lake City, and elsewhere. It is difficult for families to find loved ones and for attorneys to provide clients with representation.
(We learn every day about how unsafe these facilities are. According to data collected by the American Prospect, 52 people have died in ICE custody since the beginning of 2025.)
What is the supposed legal basis for this practice? In 2020, then County Sheriff Brian Gootkin signed what’s known as a 287g agreement with ICE.
Now we and our current county government have inherited this 287g agreement. None of us had the chance to weigh in on it or to make our voices heard. The agreement may well be invalid–no county commissioners signed it. We don’t know what it means for liability for our county, or for costs to taxpayers.
You can help change that. Tell the county commissioners you don’t want the 287g agreement. Send them an email today: commission@gallatin.mt.gov

This is an opportunity for us in Gallatin County to stand up for due process and the rule of law. We can insist on a community where everyone’s rights are respected, where we welcome the stranger and extend care to our neighbors, not punishment.
Spread the word! If you have friends or family in Gallatin County who might also want to email the commissioners, please share this information with them.
